⭕️ The Apple Marketing Philosophy, Sahil Bloom & More

plus 10 new opportunities

In partnership with

Hey there,

So much has happened since last week on our tour in Kenya. We’ve been to 4 different counties and had so many unique experiences.

One of my favorite things happened last night. We launched a fundraiser to raise $3000 to buy football equipment for a school we visited.

We ended up raising $12,500 in 4 hours. You can check it out here.

Whilst I have been on this tour, I have been reading the book Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson.

I am currently on Chapter nine and wanted to share one of my favorite takeaways so far - I promise it’s different from what you expect.

Opportunities This Week

In addition to these, here’s the living document of 25+ Youth Leadership Opportunities.

The Apple Marketing Philosophy

Apple’s very first investor was a man named Mike Markkula. Mike would invest $250,000 in return of being a one-third equity participant.

When Mike met Jobs and Wozniak, he famously recalled:

“I looked past the fact that both guys needed a haircut and was amazed by what I saw on that workbench. You can always get a haircut”.

Mike Markkula

Mike’s role was to help commercialise Apple and help the company reach the masses.

One of his first steps was to write a one-pager titled “Apple’s Marketing Philosophy”.

Steve Jobs gets a lot of credit for Apple’s Marketing and experience but it is actually this document that Mike wrote that was the foundation of it all.

In fact, Steve has previously even said:

“When you open the box of an iPhone or iPad, we want that tactile experience to set the tone for how you perceive the product. Mike taught me that”.

Steve Jobs

The document stressed three points:

1) Empathy - an intimate connection with the feelings of a customer. "We will truly understand their needs better than any other company”.

This is 101 advice we get when starting anything of our own. Want to help someone? Shut up and listen.

But how do you go above and beyond to do this better than anyone else.

2) Focus - “In order to do a good job of those things that we decide to do, we must eliminate all of the unimportant opportunities.”

This is something I feel like I struggle with a lot. There is always a bunch of side quests I am on.

Depending on the stage you are in your life, ask yourself what are the 20% of tasks that you need to focus on to deliver 80% of results.

3) Impute - it emphasised that people form an opinion about a company or product based on the signals that it conveys. “People DO judge a book by its cover. We may have the best product, the highest quality, the most useful software, etc.; if we present them in a slipshod manner, they will be perceived a slipshod; if we present them in a creative, professional manner, we will impute the desired qualities”.

This one is highly underrated. We live in a world now more than ever where it is about perception.

Especially as a young person, when most opportunities you get is based on potential - ask yourself how you showcase credibility, grow your personal brand and build rapport?

The rest is history.

We all know what Apple has become today. These 3 principles have been core to their success.

How do you plan to embody this in your life?

Sahil Bloom

Meeting Sahil Bloom in 2023

As I have shared before, I met one of my mentors Sahil Bloom last year and my conversation with him was quite pivotal in my journey.

Later this week, I have an opportunity to catch up with him again over a Zoom call.

As part of my conversation, I want see how I can add value and one of the ideas I had was supporting him with his book launch.

Sahil has a newsletter that has over 800,000+ readers and he is releasing his new book: 5 Types of Wealth soon.

How about we show him what our community is made of and support him by either subscribing to his newsletter or pre-ordering his book.

I will be sharing all the takeaways from my conversation with him next week.

If you have a question you want me to ask him, reply to this email and I will make sure to include it.

My friend, we are building momentum. I have already started working on what I plan to do next. I actually booked my very first engagement for it as soon as my trip is over and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Just want to say I appreciate you for always engaging and I hope you’re having an amazing summer from the bottom of my heart, friend.

Sending you good vibes from Kenya,

With love,
